Herbal medicine uses plants in holistic healthcare, treating the person not the illness. There are various different types of herbal healing programmes, however generally the majority of herbs fall into one of four categories.
Nourishing Herbs
These can be taken in quantity for extended period of time. They provide nutrients and strengthen the body’s defences and resources. e.g.
Tonic Herbs
These acts slowly and have a cumulative effect, they generally aid the body to balance its energy and function more easily and dependably. e.g.
Cleansing Herbs
These stimulate the body’s cleansing systems and immune system, also known as antibiotics, antibacterials and antiseptics.
They need to be used with care, as they may stress one part of the body in order to help another. e.g.
Toxic Herbs
Toxic Herbs – potent to stimulate powerful healing in the body. These herbs are taken for short periods of time or in very small doses. e.g.
